NALS of Anchorage
welcomes new members!
Any person who
is employed in a job of a legal nature, agrees to be bound by the
Code of Professional Responsibility, and meets the NALS membership
requirements may become a member of NALS of Anchorage.
This association
is tri-level (national, state and local). Alaska does not have a
State association, so there are no state dues, only local and national.
Individual
National Member - This is the class most members join.
You will receive all publications of the Anchorage chapter, the
national magazine @Law, and special notices of upcoming events and
seminars. You will have a vote on all officers, national and local,
and you also have the opportunity to join other state and local
associations as a secondary member. DUES ARE $123 per year ($108
NALS plus $15 NALS of Anchorage).
Associate
Membership - Get all the news and benefits, but you will
not be eligible to vote on Association matters (educators, judges,
attorneys).
Student
Membership - For people still pursuing their education,
this class allows membership on a limited basis and budget. Full
time students are eligible for this sort of membership. Dues are
$34 per year ($19 NALS plus $15 NALS of Anchorage).
Other categories
of NALS membership at the national level include:
$53 per year – National Associate Member (educators, judges,
attorneys)
$143 New Member
(not joining local or state associations)
How do I join?
The easiest way is to go to the NALS Web site (www.nals.org)
and join on-line! You can print out the application and mail it,
or use the NALS secure on-line registration form.
Can I join even if I'm not a legal secretary? Absolutely!
NALS has been around a long time, and our programs and CLE offerings
take into account the changing roles of the legal support staff.
Any person that is (1) employed in a job of a legal nature, (2)
agrees to be bound by the Code of Professional Responsibility, and
(3) meets the NALS membership requirements can become a member.
That means corporate legal personnel, banks, courts, judges, governmental
employees, court reporters, and lots of others are eligible to join.
Is it okay for my firm (or boss) to pay my membership
dues? Absolutely! The benefits far outweigh the cost of membership
dues. Remember, too, that we are a nonprofit corporation so be sure
to check out the tax benefits. Bosses: your legal staff will have
access to the latest and most accurate information for legal support
professionals. If you have questions about the benefits of membership,
please contact us at info@nalsofanchorage.org.
If you live
in an area where there is no chapter close enough for you to attend
regular meetings, you can still join NALS and receive all the other
benefits. You could even start a chapter wherever you are! You just
need a few members willing to do the activities necessary to begin
a new chapter. Contact info@nals.org for the details and start having
your own wonderful educational programs and membership benefits
right in your community!

State and chapter
dues vary, so please contact NALS at bates@nals.org if you want
information on other states' membership fees.
